Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, Mr K Shanmugam, is leading the Singapore delegation to the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on the World Drug Problem (UNGASS), which takes place from 19 to 21 April 2016 in New York.
UNGASS 2016 will be an important platform for the international community to discuss the future of global drug policy. It will review progress made on the goals set out in the 2009 Political Declaration and Plan of Action, which will expire in 2019.
Minister Shanmugam will deliver Singapore’s national statement at the UNGASS plenary session as well as participate as a panellist in a roundtable discussion on demand reduction.
Minister Shanmugam is accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Central Narcotics Bureau.
