Introduction
1. A very good evening to all of you. I am very happy to be able to join you tonight.
2. It is so good to see so many of you together for such a meaningful occasion. I was told that there are close to 140 families present this evening. I look forward to meeting some of you later.
Significance of Ramadan
3. During the month of Ramadan, Muslims abstain from drinking and eating from dawn to dusk.
4. It is a time where Muslims reflect and work on ourselves to be better individuals and Muslims.
5. It is also an opportune time for us to build upon our relationships especially with our family members.
6. The breaking of fast provides a good opportunity for families to come together and connect and bond over a good meal.
7. As the saying goes, the way to our heart is through our stomach. This is very applicable to us Singaporeans!
8. And it is really heartwarming to see all the different races coming together to break fast as one big community this evening.
9. It shows a community that supports one another, regardless of race and religion and regardless of our different circumstances.
Role of NeuGen
10. I would like to thank NeuGen for their continuous efforts to promote family bonding and togetherness.
11. NeuGen organises events like this, to celebrate the major festivals in Singapore with children and their families.
12. Children are our future. The Government will continue to work with partners like NeuGen to ensure our children receive the support they need to grow up well. And I want to assure you that the Government is working very hard with all our partners to support you, to support your loved ones.
Conclusion
13. Once again, I would like to thank NeuGen for organising tonight’s event.
14. To my Muslims friends and colleagues – may your striving in Ramadan be accepted and may you be granted all that you seek. And also, there are only about 10 days left, so Selamat Hari Raya.
15. Thank you.
