Stepped-up Enforcement at Hot Spots where Pedestrians Dash across Signalised Traffic Junctions When the Green Man Is Not Illuminated

Published: 18 February 2025

Question:

Ms Joan Pereira: To ask the Minister for Home Affairs whether there will be stepped-up enforcement at key hot spots of pedestrians dashing across signalised traffic junctions when the green man is not illuminated.

Answer:

Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law:

1. The Traffic Police (TP) has stepped up its enforcement since 2023, with an emphasis on accident-prone locations and jaywalking hotspots.

2. TP also engages and educates pedestrians, especially the elderly, on good road safety habits. It also works with the Land Transport Authority to enhance road safety through changes to road design and features.

3. Road safety is a collective responsibility. We would like to remind all road users, including pedestrians, to exercise care and follow all road traffic rules.
