How to apply for a Home Team sponsorship

Get an overview of each step in the Home Team Sponsorship application process. We've also gathered some tips from past sponsorship recipients on how to prepare so you can do your best.

Step 1

Submit your application

1 Oct to 15 Nov

Apply through the Apply now link on the individual sponsorship pages. You’ll get to indicate your preferred Home Team department at a later stage.

If you are shortlisted, you will be informed by 31 December.

Sponsorship recipient's tip: Start early, be organised. Collate a list of required documents and take note of the deadline.

Step 2

Go through selection and assessment

Nov to Dec

If you are shortlisted, you will be informed by email to go for a psychometric test within 2 weeks after the application window closes. You will be assigned a slot based on the schedule of the psychometric tests.

The psychometric test is meant to assess your general, verbal and numerical reasoning abilities and to give a rounded view of your psychological profile.

This stage is also when you can indicate your preferred Home Team department and specialisation.

Sponsorship recipient's tip: There is no need to prepare or revise anything for the psychometric test. Ensure that you have had a good night’s sleep and come for the test with a clear mind.

Step 3

Attend the board interview

Dec to Jan

If you clear the psychometric test, you will be invited for a board interview with a panel of senior officers from the different Home Team departments.

The panel interview is a chance for both sides to get to know each other. Be ready to field questions from the various Home Team departments, including your top choices.

Before the Board Interview

Research and read up. It is important to equip yourself with some knowledge of the organisation to show your desire and passion to be part of it. It will also be beneficial to know which Home Team Department you are considering for your career and most importantly, the reason for choosing to join that department.
Stay updated and relevant. Read widely so that you can share well-informed perspectives of issues of the day.

During the Board Interview

Show your confidence by portraying a positive body language! Sit upright and maintain strong eye contact.
Remember, interviewers are asking you questions because they want to get to know you better. So when asked a difficult question, keep calm and articulate yourself clearly when answering.

Step 4

Receive the offer

Jan to Feb

If you pass the board interview stage, you will receive a provisional offer. Your sponsorship will be confirmed after you have met all the conditions.

Sponsorship recipient's tip: Be patient. MHA conducts stringent checks on all our applicants, so it might take some time for the screening process.

Step 5

Attend the award ceremony

Apr

You’ll be invited to attend the Home Team Sponsorship Award Ceremony. It’s your chance to meet fellow sponsorship recipients from your batch, as well as past recipients and senior management.
