Question:

Mr Liang Eng Hwa: To ask the Minister for Home Affairs (a) what are the Police’s follow-up actions upon receiving repeated police reports lodged against errant hairdressing salons for unfair or improper sales practices; and (b) whether enforcement actions will be taken in such situations.

Answer:

Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law:

1. Generally, the Police will only investigate into reports lodged against hairdressing salons when a criminal offence, such as cheating, is disclosed.

2. If there is no criminal offence, and it is a case of unfair or improper sales practices, the Police will advise the complainant to seek assistance from the Consumers Association of Singapore.
