Number of Alleged Criminal Acts Involving Possession or Distribution of Voyeuristic or Sexual Abuse Images or Videos in the Past Three Years

Question:
Ms He Ting Ru: To ask the Minister for Home Affairs (a) in each of the last three years, how many instances of alleged criminal acts involving the possession or distribution of voyeuristic or intimate image or recording or any other alleged image-based sexual abuse have been reported to the police; (b) how many involved deepfakes or other generative-AI tools with manipulated images and videos; (c) what is the breakdown by the victim’s gender; and (d) how many eventually resulted in further action being taken.
Answer:
Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law:
1. Between 2021 and 2023, the Singapore Police Force (SPF)
received an average of about 340 reported cases per year involving possession or
distribution of voyeuristic, intimate or abusive images under sections 377BC, 377BD,
377BE, 377BI, 377BK and 377BL of the Penal Code.
2. SPF does not track the number of such cases involving deepfakes or manipulated
images or videos using generative-AI tools.
