Published: 14 October 2024

Question:

Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong: To ask the Minister for Home Affairs in the past five years, what is the annual number of (i) road traffic accidents and (ii) road deaths per billion vehicle kilometres.

Answer:

Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law:

1. The Member may refer to the report on the Annual Road Traffic Situation 2023 on Police’s website for the annual number of road traffic accidents.

2. The Traffic Police (TP) does not track the number of road deaths per billion vehicle kilometres. TP tracks the number of road deaths per 100,000 population, which is one of the Global Health Observatory indicators, and Sustainable Development Goals tracked by the World Health Organisation. TP also tracks the number of road deaths per 10,000 vehicles.
