Question:
Mr Leong Mun Wai: To ask the Minister for Home Affairs whether he can provide information on when the individual recently served with a Notice of Intended Designation as a Politically Significant Person was (i) registered as a permanent resident and (ii) naturalised as a Singapore citizen.
Answer:
Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law:
1. MHA does not generally disclose such information on individuals, for reasons of confidentiality. The Ministry may disclose the information when warranted by specific fact circumstances. In this specific case, the events which led to the designation of the individual took place much after his naturalisation; and we do not think it appropriate to make an exception to the principle of confidentiality.
