Published: 07 November 2024

1. The United Kingdom (UK) Home Office and the Singapore Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on security cooperation on 6 November 2024.

2. The MoU was signed by the UK’s Minister of State (Lords Minister) at the UK Home Office, the Right Honourable Lord Hanson of Flint, and Singapore’s Minister for Digital Development and Information & Second Minister for Home Affairs, Mrs Josephine Teo.

3. The MoU is testament to the long-standing ties between the Home Team Departments and law enforcement agencies in the UK, with both sides cooperating in information sharing, training and capacity building, and mutual assistance on a range of security issues.

4. The MoU renews the MoU first signed with the UK Home Office in 2018, to enhance cooperation between MHA and the UK Home Office in tackling transnational crime, including emerging threats such as cross-border scams.

5. Minister Teo said, “Singapore remains committed to working with our global counterparts to combat transnational crime. This MOU, which builds on the one first signed with the UK Home Office in 2018, enhances Singapore’s cooperation with our partners in the UK, and deepens the collaboration between our law enforcement agencies.”

6. The signing ceremony was held at the House of Lords in London, as part of Minister Teo’s working visit to the UK and France. During her visit, Minister Teo also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Collaboration on the Safety of Artificial Intelligence with the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology.
