Introduced in 2018, the VSC (Community) is our newest vocation in the VSC family. It is for public-spirited people who want to give back to society in a meaningful way and have a direct impact on the community they work and live in.
Just like other VSC officers, you will be given Police powers to allow you to perform your assigned roles. As a VSC (Community) officer, you are an important part of the SPF. It is through the close partnership between the community and the Police that Singapore is one of the safest cities in the world.
Commitment | Duty Timings |
---|---|
At least 8 hours of patrol duty each month | Usually after working hours; each patrol duty could last from 4 hours to 8 hours |
Allowance | Rank |
$5.20 an hour to cover out of pocket expenses such as personal transport and meal costs | Appointed as Special Constable (V) – the rank is retained throughout your service in the vocation |
Home Team Department | Skills and Interests |
Singapore Police Force | Uniformed Role, Safety and Security |
Did you know? The VSC (Community) vocation has a shorter training duration spread over 7 weeks, compared to 6 months for the VSC vocation.
We welcome more people to step forward, to seize the opportunity to be trained and be a part of the Police Force to safeguard Singapore.
You'll need to meet these criteria:
Unlike VSC officers, you do not need to take IPPT. You will, however, have to undergo a health screening to ensure suitability for your assigned roles.
Note:
Your main role is to patrol the neighbourhoods to deter and detect crime. You may also be required to help regulate crowds and traffic, and assist with evacuation should the situation arise.
You will be deployed to the Neighbourhood Police Centres (NPC). You will conduct foot patrols in high-traffic community areas such as markets, town centres and schools. You might also use public transport to travel to and from patrol sectors which are not within walking distance from the NPC.
You will usually perform duties after office hours – mostly on weekends or when you are off-work. Each tour of duty could last from 4 hours to 8 hours, depending on operational needs. You will be able to sign up for your duty days/hours in advance.
As a VSC (Community) officer, you will receive appropriate training to enable you to perform your assigned duties. The skills and knowledge you gain are useful life skills that will better prepare you in the event of any crisis.
Training |
Training includes police procedures, legal knowledge, Police Defence Tactics and first aid. |
---|---|
Schedule |
Training is conducted at the Home Team Academy or Police Cantonment Complex, depending on the courses.
|
You will carry a Police warrant card. Your equipment includes handcuffs, a baton and a communications set to aid you in your initial response when you come across any incidents during patrol.
You will be attired in a blue polo T-shirt (similar in design to those worn by the NPC Community Policing Officers) and black cargo pants.
VSC (Community) officers do not carry arms.
Upon completion of training, you will be posted to one of the 7 Police Land Divisions.
As a new trainee, you may indicate your desired posting. Your eventual posting will be subjected to the availability and needs of the organisation.
All divisions/units are unique and can offer you interesting opportunities to perform your police duties.
Our philosophy of involvement includes providing you with the necessary training, orientation, opportunities for personal development, as well as awards and recognition for good service.
Your benefits also include:
